THE OPPORTUNITY

Due to a strong forward workload in the transportation, energy and infrastructure sectors, Ecora is seeking an Hydrotechnical Engineer to join their expanding Engineering Group, based in our Kelowna or Vancouver office. Travel throughout Western Canada (BC, YK, AB) may be required in this position.

Ecora’s Engineering Group has extensive experience in providing engineering services in support of transportation and infrastructure projects, commercial structures, dam engineering and residential subdivision construction and is providing consulting services to provincial and federal government agencies, municipalities, utility owners, First Nation communities and contracting firms throughout Western Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertaking dam safety reviews, design of hydraulic structures, hydrology and numerical flow modelling, floodplain assessments and mapping, design of sedimentation/detention ponds, channel stabilization and erosion protection works.
  • Project management and delivery of all stages of hydrotechnical engineering projects including proposal preparation, concept design, preliminary design, detailed design and construction review.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Project management including planning, reporting, and schedule and budget management.
  • Liaise and communicate with clients.
  • Mentor junior team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • At least 5 years related work experience.
  • Experience with taking projects from proposal stage through conceptual design, detailed design, and construction.
  • Experience preparing design drawings and specifications.
  • Previous experience with industry standard computer hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software packages such as SWMM, HYFRAN, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, FLO-2D.
  • Must be registered, or be eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC.
  • Previous project management experience.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Strong work ethic with the desire to excel and achieve.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • The ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, manage deadlines and have exceptional organization skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • A safety-oriented attitude with a strong work ethic and desire to excel and achieve.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.

NICE TO HAVES

  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, legislation and regulations including the Riparian Area Regulation and the Water Sustainability Act.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Standard Specifications and Technical Bulletins.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Safety Guidelines, Associated Technical Bulletins and the BC Dam Safety Regulations.
  • AutoCAD Civil3D modelling.
  • Business Development skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant EGBC Professional Practice Guidelines.
