Ecora is seeking a Hydrotechnical Design Engineer to join their expanding Geo-Hydro Group. The position will be based in our Kelowna office to support our growing workload in the BC Interior and throughout the Province. We are seeking a candidate that is proficient in project management, hydrologic/watershed analysis and modelling, hydraulic structure analysis, modelling, and design (weirs, culverts, erosion protection), and civil design. The candidate would ideally have had a solid grounding in practical site investigation and construction experience, client liaison and be proficient in preparing technical memos and reports.

Ecora’s Geo-Hydro Group has extensive experience in providing hydrotechnical and geotechnical services in support of infrastructure projects, dam engineering, and river engineering, and is currently providing consulting services to provincial government including the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, BC Hydro, Fortis, BC Ministry of Forests, municipalities, First Nation communities, architects, and contracting firms throughout British Columbia.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil or water resource engineering with at least 7 years related work experience is required. Must be registered, or be eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer in BC. The successful candidate’s duties will include participating in undertaking dam safety reviews, design of hydraulic structures, hydrology and numerical flow modelling, floodplain assessments and mapping, design of sedimentation/detention ponds, channel stabilization, culvert design, and erosion protection works. Travel throughout British Columbia may be required in this position.

Additionally, the successful candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Knowledge of standard computer hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software packages such as SWIMM, HYFRAN, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-7, FLO-2D
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Previous project management experience
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently under minimal supervision
  • Strong work ethic with the desire to excel and achieve
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Other Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, legislation and regulations including the Riparian Area Regulation and the Water Sustainability Act
  • Experience with taking projects from proposal stage through conceptual design, detailed design, and construction
  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Safety Guidelines, Associated Technical Bulletins, and the BC Dam Safety Regulations
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and the BC Supplement to TAC Geometric Design Guide
  • Business development skills
